Galataport - Blend of Modernity and History
Galataport Istanbul is one of the most anticipated projects by Turks and global travellers alike. Do you wonder why there is all the hype about Galataport and its neighbourhood? Here is all the information that might interest you.
Magnificent Location
This grand project is located on the European shore of Galata, Bosporus Strait, right where it meets with the Golden Horn. Besides neighbouring the beautiful Galata and connecting beautiful districts of Turkey Karakoy and Tophane, this port will also open around 1,200 meters (3,900 ft) of city-centre shoreline that was previously not accessible by general masses.
What makes the Galataport project so noteworthy?
The Galataport project carries great significance for Turkey’s tourism industry and its economy. Apart from the resplendent new infrastructural developments, it is also whole neighborhood development. Tailored to provide tourists with a lifetime experience and every luxury possible, this global-scale project is the major steppingstone in the construction of modern Istanbul.
With a ginormous investment volume of 1.7 billion USD, this destination project features a cruise liner port on the 1.2-kilometer coastline, restoration and up-gradation of cultural assets, art museums, souvenir shops, major national/international brands outlets, gastronomy city, sale points, corporate spaces, destination event spaces, Istanbul’s grand shopping neighborhood and a lot more. Once it is fully functional, on average, it is expected to draw 25 million visitors, 7 million tourists, and 1.5 million cruise passengers from across the globe.
World’s First Underground Cruise Ship Terminal
Besides being the premium lifestyle, art, and cultural hub, Galataport houses a 29,000-square meter underground cruise ship terminal and underground custom area. With the capacity to serve three ships and 15,000 passengers per day, this port welcomed its first cruise ship, SeaDream II, on Friday, October 1st, 2021.
This port is located on the shore along Istanbul’s Karaköy district (Karakoy is the modern name for ancient Galata). This area wasn’t accessible by the public for up to 200 years but now it is completely revived and redefined.
Unlike any shipping port in the world, Galataport Istanbul’s operations are completely underground. Forget about hustle and bustle and disruptions on the ports due to the cruise operations.
Home of every cuisine
Eating good food is science itself referred to as gastronomy. Yes, you heard it right!
The Galataport project features one of the world’s largest gastronomy neighborhoods. Currently, more than 250 food and beverage establishments are operating, and this number is growing every day. 40% of the leasable area of this project is strictly reserved for gastronomy outlets.
From ancient Turkish cuisines to modern variations to substantial dining options to cuisines from every corner of the world – enjoy quality cuisines and magnificent views of Bosphorus city.
Cultural Hub
Galataport is the finest combination of modern architectural work while preserving the history scattered everywhere in the area.
With a new urban identity, this area is also hosting several Turk cultural symbols including Istanbul Modern, being built by Star-chitect Renzo Piano, the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Painting and Sculpture Museum, the Parcel Post Office, Merkez Han, Karaköy Passenger Terminal, and the Tophane Clock Tower. This place is a sophisticated blend of history, modernism, and nature.
Shopping villages
Either a world-recognized brand or national brands, Galataport shopping villages host everything in one place.
As this location is expected to receive more than 7 million foreign tourists and 1.5 million cruise passengers on average, automatically all domestic and foreign brands are striving to open their outlets here.
