Northern Cyprus, the last secret of the Mediterranean!
Have you ever considered visiting Northern Cyprus? If you haven’t, you may want to after you will read this article.
Filled with beautiful natural sites, obscure coastal villages, an endless stretch of golden beaches, pretty harbor towns and mountains riddled with Crusader castles: this is Northern Cyprus, the last secret corner of the Mediterranean.
Although Northern Cyprus is still quite bucolic, you cannot compare its landscape’s beauty with any other place.
Largest city, Nicosia, is extremely charming with its now UNESCO funded renovation. The numerous cathedrals turned mosques, museums, bazaars and restored mansions are ideal for relaxation & events alike. Despite the old world charm, the cities of Northern Cyprus also have a very young, trendy side and there are plenty of restaurants, pubs, cafes, and shops.
Indeed there are plenty of other places to visit out of Nicosia.
For example Kyrenia is a pretty harbor town which is ringed with rugged mountains and it has a resort-like vibe. As Northern Cyprus has some of the Mediterranean‘s finest turtle egg laying spots, the beaches near Kyrenia draw hundreds of female turtles every year.
Famagusta is another really beautiful city and it has a very young population. Filled with gorgeous cathedrals, castles, mosques and fortified walls overlooking the sea, and very close by the ghost town of Varosha.
A visit to the far-flung Karpas Peninsula is a must if you have time on your hands in Northern Cyprus. Home of many rare flora and fauna, Karpas has a national park the biggest highlight of which are wild donkeys.
