A gem in a city already full of them

I’m officially in love with Istanbul!!
From the moment we arrived, the city embraced us with its vibrant energy, rich textures, and incredible hospitality. Over five days between Istanbul and Cappadocia, I experienced not just two destinations, but two different worlds — both equally unforgettable.
A Grand Entrance to the City of Cities
Our first evening was nothing short of cinematic. From a smooth airport arrival to stepping aboard a private Bosphorus cruise at Tarabya, every detail was orchestrated with effortless style. As we glided along the water — golden light bouncing off the waves, a skyline stitched with minarets and rooftops — it became clear that Istanbul doesn’t just welcome you, it sweeps you in.
We docked right outside the Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, arriving in true style. From boat to lobby in moments, greeted by elegance, warm smiles, and the unmistakable sense that something special had begun. Dinner and a site visit followed, and I must say — this property is exceptional. Elegant, refined, and deeply welcoming, it’s perfect for any type of group event: social, incentive, corporate, or team building. The service is as flawless as the Bosphorus views, and the sense of place is unmistakable — rooted in history, elevated by modern luxury.
After dinner, we settled in and took time to unwind, reflecting on a first day that felt more like a film than a familiarisation trip. The tone had been set — and Türkiye was already exceeding expectations.
Istanbul: Timeless Layers and Creative Heartbeats
The next day offered a deeper look at the city’s soul. We wandered through the Roman Hippodrome, descended into the ethereal Basilica Cistern, and tried our hand at Ebru, the delicate Ottoman art of water marbling — a hands-on, meditative experience that left everyone quietly proud (and slightly surprised at their handiwork).
We continued on to Galataport, visited the sleek and thought-provoking Istanbul Modern Museum, and enjoyed a waterfront lunch at Liman Restaurant — where modern Turkish cuisine meets timeless views. Istanbul, I realised, doesn’t rest on its past — it constantly reinvents it.
Cappadocia: Magic Carved in Stone
That evening, we flew to Cappadocia, where the landscape shifts dramatically — as if you’ve landed on another planet. We explored the Göreme Open Air Museum, stepped inside the Dark Church, and took part in traditional pottery making in Avanos — a joyful, grounding experience that connected us to centuries of Anatolian craft.
On our final morning, at 4:00 AM, we rose early for a hot air balloon flight — and what followed was simply magic. As dozens of balloons floated into the sunrise above valleys and volcanic spires, I felt something rare: stillness, wonder, and total presence. It was the perfect end to an incredible trip, a moment I’ll carry with me forever.
Our farewell dinner that night was full of shared laughter, warm reflections, and a touch of that travel magic you wish you could bottle.
Why Türkiye, and Why Now?
This trip wasn’t just about beautiful places (though there were plenty). It was about connection — with culture, with history, with people, and with possibility.
But the best part of Istanbul — and Türkiye — is without a doubt the people. Warm, welcoming, and proud of their culture, they make you feel like part of the family from the moment you arrive. Their generosity of spirit stays with you long after you’ve left — and is perhaps what makes the experience truly unforgettable.
For planners looking for something truly immersive and meaningful, Türkiye ticks every box. Between the buzz of Istanbul and the dreamscape of Cappadocia, it offers an unbeatable combination of elegance, creativity, and authenticity. And as for Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul — it’s one of those rare properties that elevates every aspect of a stay, from welcome drink to farewell wave.
